Friday #musicwrapIt’s the end of another great week and as always, there are stories to be told about what’s hot in music, what’s new in music reality shows and what you can expect from a pair of sisters from the pop music scene. In case you missed them in music news, here’s what’s going on!

Lady Gaga’s album ‘Born This Way’ has already exceeded a million sales within its first week of release and in the midst of Gaga’s sophomore album making and breaking records, it should be noted how many of the total sales amount was contributed by online purchasing and what it means for artists in the future. Amazon.com, the major online retailer that sells everything from uranium ore to a container of 1,500 live ladybugs, set the price of the entire album at 99 cents on May 23rd 2011. Amazon had sold approximately 300,000 units on that day and the traffic on the site caused it to shut down temporarily. Even though it was planned to be a one-day event, Amazon held the offer again the next day because of the crash. All in all, this move made by Amazon boosted sales for Gaga and was evidently a smart one on Amazon’s part because it helped promote Amazon’s Cloud Drive service. This move made by Amazon and supported by Lady Gaga and her representatives definitely opened a door for other artists looking to have similar success in their album sales in the future. The highly anticipated reality singing competition show, ‘The X Factor’, has announced that they are now allowing online auditions via YouTube, starting today until June 9th. The show’s executive producer Simon Cowell reveals his positivity towards the move and states, “There is a lot of great talent online now, and especially young kids today are using YouTube to get themselves seen and heard.” The audition videos will be judged similarly to how it is does live in-person, but of course will remain private as ‘The X Factor’ team will be the only ones that view the videos. Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, both sisters and pop stars, have decided to team up and start a fashion line together. The new clothing line is aimed at tweens and will be a part of the Jessica Simpson Collection, featuring sportswear and activewear. Jessica was quoted saying that she was “excited” that her sister Ashlee would be a co-creative director because “she brings a savvy rocker edge that defines today’s tweens.” Ashlee herself stated that her goal is to “inspire young girls to express their personalities and creativity though fashion.” Each sister will serve as co-directors of this new clothing line and it will be available this fall in 2011.
