#musicwrap: Christmas Covers and Goodbyes

28 Oct

Every week, the Ticketforce team will bring you a recap in the sports, theatre, music and racing industries. This week, we showcase #musicwrap!

“All I Want for Christmas is…” Bieber
Shhh…can you hear that? It’s the collective sounds of millions of girls screaming about the leak of Justin Bieber’s holiday album, Under the Mistletoe. He’s already gracing the cover of the latest Billboard issue (out October 31). The pop-heartthrob has teamed up with a few famous artists to cover holiday favorites such as “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire),” “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” and “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” The singer duets with Usher, Boyz II Men and Busta Rhymes. While those artists may not be your cup of tea, the album is still a smooth┬áholiday tribute. However, Thanksgiving is before Christmas…luckily, the Biebz didn’t do a cover of this Thanksgiving favorite from Adam Sandler.

Florence + The Machine Breaks Down “Breaking Down” and “Ceremonials”
In an interview with Pop & Hiss [L.A. Times' music blog], Florence Welch talks about the new album and her inspiration for her new song, “Breaking Down.” She describes how the song came to her: “That was one of those songs that I just started humming and then the words came out.” As she continues to describe her process, you can see why her lyrics are so powerful and descriptive. The way she talks is just as artistic. Check out the video of another song, “Shake it Out,” from the much-anticipated album.

R.E.M. Final Music Video Show “Gravity and Beauty”
The group’s album, Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage, is set to release November 15, 2011. The band announced their split in September and this will be their last album. They’ve released two videos for their single, “We All Go Back To Where We Belong.” Both videos are in black and white, with one video featuring John Giorno and the other with Kirsten Dunst. Both seem to portray their emotions while listening to the track. We’ve included both videos below. What do you think?
