Confirmed! After performing the "Star Spangled Banner" at last year's Super Bowl 50, Lady Gaga will be the headlining performer for the halftime show for next year's Super Bowl 51.
Lady Gaga (born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta) has just released her sixth studio album, and has been a pop music favorite since 2008. After her successful opener for Super Bowl 50, Gaga was a second pick for the performing act, after Adele. Ariana Grande will be performing the National Anthem.
Pop stars haven't always been the main event for the halftime act. Traditionally, marching bands perform renditions of popular songs and music related to the Super Bowl's theme. Only since the 1980s have their been pop, rock and R&B singers to headline the halftime act.
Super Bowl 51 will take place in Houston, Texas on February 5th, 2017 at NRG Stadium. For those outside of the 71,000 seat capacity at the stadium, this game will be televised by Fox.
