#racingwrap: NHRA Nationals, Danica Patrick, Michael Shank Racing

14 Oct

Every week, the Ticketforce team will bring you a recap in the sports, theatre, music and racing industries. This week, we showcase #racingwrap!

NHRA Nationals – Vroom!
Come out to Firebird International Raceway all weekend long for loud cars and skilled drivers in the NHRA AZ Nationals. 300+ mile per hour Top Fuel and Funny Car Drag Racing…what more could you want? In honor of NHRA’s 60th anniversary, three legends of the sport will be joining the celebration – “Big Daddy” Don Garlits, Shirley Muldowney and Jim Dunn. Kids 12 and under are free and there will be open autograph sessions all weekend long. Sunday morning, you will have the opportunity to walk on the track and hear stories from the legends. Get your tickets here!

NASCAR + Danica Patrick = Tickets
Racing fans know Danica Patrick from her IndyCar Series and everyone else knows her from her GoDaddy.com sponsorship (everyone’s seen this commercial, right?). In an interview with TicketNews, Gary Camp, the Senior Director of Ticket Operations and Inside Sales for Dover International Speedway, stated: “As a trend in general what we’re seeing is that folks are just waiting longer to purchase their tickets,” going on to describe weather and other factors affecting the delayed ticket purchases. With Patrick driving for JR Motorsports in 2012 and running limited races in the Sprint Cup Series for Stewart-Haas Racing, she won’t be making a full-time move to the series until 2013. As long as she remains competitive (she has finished top-five once and top-ten three times so far this season), she’ll maintain a NASCAR following and impact ticket sales.

Michael Shank Racing joins IndyCar Series
The squad announced they’ll be entering the IndyCar Series in 2012, according to Autosport.com. The partnership includes Brian Bailey and NASCAR’s AJ Allmendinger, with the team planning to run a single car. Michael Shank, the team’s owner, described his enthusiasm: “For me, the Indianapolis 500 has always been the dream.  With the new 2012 Dallara IndyCar, there is a window for a team like mine to join the series and pursue that dream.”

What racers and races are you watching this season?

I just want to put a bit of info out there regarding NHRA/Nascar/Sports fans. On Nov.1, DirecTV will be losing Fuel, Speed, FOX Sports, FX and more, due to failed contract negotiations with FOX. There is no timetable for channel-return, nor will there be any price modification during the takedown. I get amazing sports coverage through work at DISH network, and highly recommend you take a look at what we have to offer. You won’t miss a thing during the hottest parts of the season, and you won’t be paying for things you can’t watch, as will be the case at DirecTV!! Go to Dishnetwork.com for more info!!

Hi Erik! Thanks for the info. We heard about the fallout deal with FOX and are pretty bummed.
